SEMINAR ON PATENTS IN THE FIELD OF FOOD TECHNOLOGY On June 2, 2016 within the premises of the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia ended a two-day seminar on patents in the field of food technology, which was jointly organized by the European Patent Office and the Intellectual Property Office within the implementation of Bilateral Cooperation Plan. The first day of the seminar was dedicated to the exchange of experiences of experts from the European Patent Office and experts of the Intellectual Property Office in the field of patent protection of functional foods and the second day of the seminar, in the form of round table was dedicated to representatives of industry, science, centers for technology transfer and patent agents. The round table gathered around forty participants. Baring in mind that 57% of number of patents in the projects of technological development in Serbia belongs to the field of biotechnology and agriculture, focus of round table discussion was on specific issues dedicated to procedures and practice in patent protection of functional food. Topics of most importance for the quality of patent applications, and well preparation for patent protection of inventions in the field of food technology were covered, and also a questions of possibility to implement patents from science in industry followed by best practice examples.
